Ages 8 – 25The Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive in San Francisco is the new Fusion of a true Classical Contemporary Ballet Intensive. This Intensive has a strong emphasis on a variety of contemporary techniques by our world class international faculty. It is a unique Contemporary Ballet Intensive. Daily classes are taught in classical and contemporary ballet, pointe, variations, contemporary dance, improv, partnering and repertory. On the performance track, students will end each day with a creative rehearsal process with our esteemed choreographers culminating in a beautifully designed concert dance performance in San Francisco State’s McKenna Theatre.This is a 3 week program and the performance track requires students to be there the last 2 weeks which I highly recommend.
San Francisco State University – Mary Ward HallSan Francisco State University offers traditional residence halls. Mary Ward Hall offers furnished double occupancy rooms with gender specific common bathrooms in the hallway. In partnership with our residents, SFSU and JBS Residential Life establish and maintain a living and learning environment where members of the community are respected and valued.Check in is between 3-5pm at Mary Ward Hall. Check out is before classes on Fridays, and bags will be stored in the luggage room until after classes or if it the final Friday, after the performance.Mary Ward Hall rooms are double occupancy with showers and bathrooms on each wing of every floor. Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, bookshelves, dressers, and closets – one for each student. Housing provides Internet connection and a single telephone line in each unit.
Residents are allowed to bring a small refrigerator or microwave to use in their rooms. Daily housekeeping is not provided, but if you are staying longer than one week, your sheets may be replaced.Download. More information will be available shortly. Amenities will be similar. We will do our best to honor roommate requests that are completed and remain within the established guidelines.A dancer may request up to a maximum of three roommates for a total of four dancers in a chain.
Please note that all roommate requests must be completed by both sets of parents, at least fourteen days prior to arrival.Please note that confirmed roommates will be in the same room, but we are unable to accommodate requests for a bunk assignment near another dancer. Dancers are assigned their beds by their Resident Assistants based on numerous factors including medical conditions, sleepwalking, etc.
And these assignments may not be changed during the arrival process. What to BringYour room will fill up quickly; so only bring what you really need.
Remember, you can always purchase extras or have your family send them to you. There is a Lost and Found table set-up during check-out on Saturday. Please check this section for any misplaced items before you leave.
If you realize that you did not make it home with an item, please call Customer Service at and leave a message describing the missing item(s). All claimed items will be returned C.O.D.
Items will be held for two weeks, and after that time they will be donated to charity. Please label all items and make sure that you have all your belongings before leaving. JBS is not responsible for lost or broken items. It is the policy of the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School that all tuition and other fees paid shall not be refunded at any time, regardless of the time of cancellation by the student or student’s parents or guardians or whether the relevant program has commenced. In the event that the relevant program has been cancelled by the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School, the School will make best efforts to move the student into a substantially similar program; in the event that no such substantially similar program exists, the School will issue a full refund.

Joffrey Ballet School seeks hard working and enthusiastic individuals for Head Resident Advisors in New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, and Athens. This is a temporary, full-time position, with live-in and on-call responsibilities. The Head RA is responsible for supervising housing staff and students who are residing in their assigned dormitory during the summer school session. The Head RA will organize transportation of students to and from the dormitory and Joffrey studio locations and activities. The Head RA will organize and supervise staff schedules and work assignments in the dormitory.

The Head RA will ensure that all staff schedules, policies, transportation schedules, major disciplinary decisions and scheduled staff meetings are presented to the Director of Resident Life for review and approval. The Head RA will be responsible for communication between their assigned dormitory and Joffrey administrative staff, faculty, students, and parents.
The Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for assisting students who are staying at Joffrey Ballet School during the summer school session. The Resident Assistant helps dancers feel at home in housing, organize fun activities, problem solve, ensure dancers are following the rules. RAs will also collaborate with the Joffrey administration to ensure the well-being of all residents. Applicants must be able to work within the artistic culture of Joffrey, have the ability to give and receive constructive feedback, be able to problem solve, have excellent verbal and written communication, and have good organizational and analytical skills.Dance and Residence Life experience preferred.

The RAs serve as a role model and resource to students by assisting in artistic and personal growth. Josie directs and choreographs for TV, film and stage. Born in Wheatridge, Colorado and raised in Oklahoma, James Gregg is now aMontreal-based choreographer.He has set choreographic works on Danceworks Chicago, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, Ballet X, Northwest Dance Project, Nashville Ballet’s Emergence, Springboard Danse Project Montreal, River North Dance Company, Elements Contemporary Ballet, and also L’Ecole Superieure de Danse de Quebec.Most recently, James was the recepient of the 2015 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award. Beckanne Sisk was born in Longview, Texas and studied at Longview Ballet Theater until the age of fourteen. She then moved to Philadelphia, PA to attend The Rock School for Dance Education’s RAPA program for four years.
Sisk won the Jerome Robbins award in 2007 and competed at the Youth America Grand Prix from 2007-2010. She then joined Ballet West II in 2010 and was promoted to Principal Artist in 2015. Sisk won the Princess Grace Dance Fellowship Award in 2012 along with the Bronze Medal at the Beijing International Ballet Competition. She has performed leading roles in Anna Marie Holmes Don Quixote, John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet, Adam Sklute’s adaptation of Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Sisk was featured on a reality TV series on the CW called Breaking Pointe.Chase O’Connell was born in Fredericksburg Virginia. He started his professional training at 13 at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. He then went to the Royal Ballet School in London for 2 years on scholarship.
After Royal he was offered a temporary contract with the Paris Opera Ballet Company. He then joined Ballet West II in 2012 and was promoted to Principal in 2015. He has performed Principal roles in John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet, Adam Sklute’s adaptation of Swan Lake, George Balanchine’s Symphony in C ( Second Movement), Jerome Robbins’ Fancy Free, Jiri Kylian’s Petit Mort, Overgrown Path and Forgotten Land. Also a instructor of Joffrey San Francisco.Anh Dillon started with an academic education in classical ballet at the Conservatoire Niedermeyer in Paris, France, and later expanded her training to modern and jazz. She went on to perform worldwide with contemporary ballet and contemporary jazz companies. Her versatility enabled her to venture into various types of work, from music videos (Usher) to industrials (Redken, Aveda) and commercials (PBS), working with LA industry choreographers such as Michael Rooney, Travis Payne, Shanda Sawyer, John Carrafa, and Kevin Wilson.
Anh is the recipient of a Lester Horton Award for best performance in “Duet” choreographed by Terri Best. As a choreographer, one of the highlights of her career was the amazing opportunity to work with the one and only Prince.Her experience and career led her to co-create and co-direct the online dance hub DancePlug.com.Anh teaches ballet, contemporary and jazz, traveling the US and overseas. She is a resident instructor at the Edge PAC and the new Industry Dance Academy in Los Angeles and has been a part of the Joffrey Ballet School faculty since 2013.Anh is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through to Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. Also directing: XIOM Dance Theatre and a instructor of the Joffrey San Francisco Intensive.ZAK RYAN SCHLEGEL is an internationally recognized dancer, teacher and choreographer. He is the artistic director of LA-based AXIOM Dance Theatre and company member of Shen Wei Dance Arts in New York City, currently performing at American Dance Festival, Spoleto Festival and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.He grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he attended Fishback Studio of the Dance, training under Krista King Doherty.
He later attended Chapman University, where he studied Literature, Performance and Choreography and received a BFA in Dance Performance. He has been a recipient of multiple talent scholarships and was awarded Outstanding Performance 2009, 2010, 2011 as well as Outstanding Choreography for his piece Bunker in 2011 at the Chapman University Department Honors.Zak has trained and performed with a number of leading choreographers and companies. His work ranges from concert, commercial and film to modeling, performance art and cabaret.
In 2010 he joined Backhausdance, where he has performed a number of original works both across the country and internationally in venues such as New York City Center, American Dance Festival, Vernon Center for the Performing Arts in Canada, Carpenter Center, Segerstrom Center and McCallum Center. In the same year he joined Lisa Eaton’s riotous Rouge Cabaret in LA as a soloist, performing in Hollywood and at the Fonda Theater under direction of actress and spokeswoman Jaime Pressly. He moved on to become performer and assistant choreographer to multimedia image/projection mapping dance company WIFE performing in New York, LA and at the TedX SoCal event at the Long Beach Convention Center.Upon graduation, Zak traveled to Australia where he trained with Rafael Bonachela and learned repertory of Sydney Dance Company. He returned to LA and in 2013 joined Ryan Heffington and painter Nolan Hendrickson’s art/dance/performance installation KTCHN premiering at Mack Sennett studios. That summer he traveled to Portland, participating in Northwest Dance Project’s LAUNCH 8. Other esteemed choreographers Zak has worked with include Stephen Petronio (Stephen Petronio Company), Sarah Slipper (Northwest Dance Project), Helene Blackburn (Cas Public), Danielle Agami (Ate9/Batsheva), Lucas Crandall (Hubbard Street), Andrew Cowan (Shen Wei Dance Arts), Kitty McNamee (Hysterica Dance Company) and Yin Yue (YYDC).
Additionally, Zak can be seen in music videos, print and national commercials including Britney Spears, MIKA, Fitz and the Tantrums, Years & Years Sam Sparro, The Pierces, Toyota Prius, Lexus, Sleep Number, FLAUNT and OUT magazine.Simultaneous to his illustrious performance career, Zak began choreographing professionally in 2010 when he became assistant choreographer for WIFE. Zak’s collaboration The Grey Ones premiered at the TedX SoCal event at the Long Beach Convention Center and later was featured on the electronic music artist Amon Tobin’s box set DVD. In 2011 Zak again collaborated and performed in WIFE’s MUMA, which was commissioned by Ford, Milk and Legs Media and was performed in New York and Los Angeles alongside five other multimedia artists. In the meantime, Zak began to research and develop the launch of his own company, AXIOM Dance Theatre, in 2011 with long time artistic partner and co-founder Denna Thomsen.
ADT has performed two evening-length productions including their self-titled show in the spring of 2013 and LILIT, which premiered in the fall of 2014 to critical acclaim. Zak is very thrilled for the engagement of his teaching and choreography and is, most recently, the proud recipient of the 2014 & 2015 Youth America Grand Prix Outstanding Choreographer award.
